A practical guide to using Tapestry without overthinking it.

This is a todo list. You can link stuff.

Tapestry helps you focus on what you can do now. If one task has to happen before another, link them. Tapestry will show the prerequisite first and hide the dependent task until it is actually ready.

When a task is not doable, say why.

If you open Now and still cannot do the task in front of you, do not hunt through other lists. Fix the task.

I need to do something else first. Add the blocking task under Before.
This is too big for one sitting. Break it into smaller tasks.
This is not relevant yet. Snooze it until it matters.

Break vague tasks into smaller pieces.

Instead of one large task:

Paint the living room Too large

Use smaller tasks that can become ready independently:

Buy paint Ready now
Clear the room Ready now
Mix the paint Link only what really blocks it
Paint the walls Link only what really blocks it

For example, Mix the paint depends on Buy paint, but it does not necessarily depend on Clear the room. Smaller tasks make the graph more useful because Tapestry can reveal more work that is genuinely available.

Start from the end when planning.

Write the outcome first. If you cannot do it yet, add the immediate prerequisite. Repeat until the next step is something you can actually complete.

Use snooze and due dates for timing. (Try it!)

Snooze means the task is not time-relevant yet. Due means timing matters. Due dates do not replace dependencies; Crunch combines due work with the chain that has to happen first.
